Gynecological Infections

Gynecological infections are a type of infection that women may frequently encounter. While they adversely affect reproductive health, they can also lead to certain types of cancer. The main types of gynecological infections include:

Vaginal Infections: Disturbance of the natural environment of the vagina can cause symptoms such as intense discharge, itching, unpleasant odor, painful intercourse, and burning during urination. Gynecological infections often occur in the summer months due to the moistness of the genital area caused by an increase in ambient temperature. Factors such as synthetic underwear choice, antibiotic use, pregnancy, diabetes, and certain diseases that suppress the immune system increase the risk of gynecological infections.

Bacterial Vaginosis: This infection occurs as a result of a decrease in the natural flora of the vagina, leading to a thin, gray, homogeneous discharge resembling a fishy odor. Treatment may take about a week and requires antibiotic use.

Parasitic Infections: Caused by parasites that can be found in both men and women, the treatment of this type of infection is crucial for both partners. Irritation and foul-smelling green discharge are the main symptoms.

Fungal Infections: Fungal infections cause a vaginal discharge with a consistency resembling cottage cheese and irritation. In addition to medication, measures such as using cotton underwear, keeping the genital area dry, avoiding the use of cosmetic products in the genital area, and maintaining regular hygiene can help in the treatment.

Herpes Virus Infection: Also known as the cold sore virus, this virus type causes painful ulcers in the genital area 10 days after being sexually transmitted. It can also negatively affect pregnancy. Antiviral drugs are used in treatment, and ensuring necessary hygiene is crucial for the success of the treatment, as in many types of gynecological infections.

HPV (Human Papillomavirus) Infection: Commonly known as the HPV virus, it causes wart-like lesions on the genital organs and cervix. It can occur in both men and women, with over 100 known types. Some types of HPV can trigger different types of cancer. Genital warts caused by the HPV virus can appear as single or clustered cauliflower-like growths in light or dark brown on the skin. These warts can cause itching or bleeding during sexual intercourse.
